TURKISH, ARMENIAN, GEORGIAN AND AZERBAIJANI BUSINESSMEN COME TOGETHER IN ISTANBUL

A working group including Turkish, Armenian, Georgian and Azerbaijani
businessmen and academicians came together in Istanbul for forming a Regional Economics Working Group. The Conference was Sponsored by American University- Center For Global Peace.

Chairman Noyan Soyak told the A.A on Sunday that economists and businessmen from four countries
attended the meeting which was held closed to the press and which lasted for two days at Surmeli Hotel.

Soyak stated that the meeting was held to review the situation in Caucasia and search cooperation possibilities,
adding that the borders were closed and there were some obstacles before cooperation in Caucasia.

Soyak said that they searched what could be done to establish and develop commercial relations in the region.
He went on saying that this meetings would continue and stated that definite working groups were formed.
Soyak said that the most important goal of the meeting was to bring together businessmen and academicians
of the countries in the region.

He stated that an ambassador from the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) informed the participants
about the organization and its studies and the information was very beneficial. He stated that Azerbaijani and
Armenian participants had a very good dialogue at the meeting and noted that especially the transportation road
between Caucasia and Europe was discussed. Soyak said that how all the countries would make use of this road which
was the project of the European Union (EU) was taken up. Soyak stated that they reached a consensus on cooperation
to be made in Caucasia and Europe transportation road.
He said that how the problems on taxes and customs proceedings would be removed among the countries in the
region was discussed at the meeting. Soyak stated that they agreed to create a joint web site.
He said that no politicians attended the meeting and added that the meeting organized by Turkish-Armenian Business
Council was very beneficial.
