AZG: DIASPORA-ARMENIAN POET ZAHRAT AWARDED `VAHAGN´ PRIZE

Armenian culture minister Roland Sharoyan received June 24 an Istanbul-based Armenian poet Zahrat to hand him over the Vahakn prize, established by Vahakn and Hasmig Hovnanian Foundation for prominent Diaspora Armenian men and women of art.

World known singer Charles Aznavour, painter Jeansem (France), film director Atom Egoyan (Canada), actor Armen Jigarkhanian (Russia) are among its laureates.

Mr. Sharoyan congratulated the poet and wished him great success in his further creative work. Zahrat (born in 1924) graduated from the Mkhitarian Lyceum in Istanbul. He is the author of a number of poetry collections. His works are translated into English, French, Greek, Lithuanian and other languages.
