It has been almost a century that we have our Diaspora with Armenian communities around the world, with their public and cultural organizations, Radio and TV channels, painters, composers, movie stars and directors and of course writers. Many of them came to see their historical homeland, but now for the first time they are coming en mass for the first pan-Armenian gathering of writers and Yerevan is going to become the world center of Armenian writers from June 16 to 21. They are coming from USA, Canada, France, Lebanon, Iran and other countries.
Chairman of the Union of Armenian Writers Levon Ananian said invitations have been sent to all prominent Diaspora writers and almost of them promised to arrive in Yerevan. The main goal of this unprecedented gathering is to get to know each other, to revise what has been created by them in the last ten years and what seems to be the most important element of the future discussions is to set up a united fund that would be to support development of Armenian literature.
The gathering is organized by the Union of Writers and culture ministry with the support of the Armenian Apostolic and Evangelical Churches. The first session will be taking place June 17. On June 20 they will visit the Genocide Memorial and Museum and will also meet with Armenian Catholicos Karekin II.
