The South Caucasus and the Turkish policy in the Caucasus

German Armenian Society is organizing a lecture by Dr. Rainer Freitag-Wirminghaus who is from German Orient-Institute from Hamburg, with the topic “The South Caucasus and the Turkish policy in the Caucasus after 11 September and the war in Afghanistan”

The war in Afghanistan changed things not only in Central Asia, the Caucasus is also confronted – though to a lesser degree – with new challenges.As a
consequence of the Russian-American cooperation in the
fight against terrorism separatists are not only in
Tchechnia equated with terrorists, Azerbaijan does the
same in case of Nagorno-Karabagh. While Azerbaijan’s
importance for the USA is on the increase the Russian
pressure on Georgia persits and new speculations about
the extension of Turkey’s military cooperation with
Georgia and Azerbaijan are circulating.
