APPOINTMENT OF APOSTOLIC NUNCIO TO GEORGIA AND ARMENIA
The Holy Father has named as Apostolic Nuncio to Georgia and Armenia Rev. Msgr. Claudio Gugerotti, presently the Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, elevating him at the same time to the titular see of Rivello, with the rank of Archbishop.
REV. MSGR. CLAUDIO GUGEROTTI
Msgr. Claudio Gugerotti was born in Verona on October 7, 1955. He was ordained a priest on May 29, 1982.
He is incardinated in the diocese of Verona.
He holds a doctorate in Oriental Literature and Languages and a
License in Liturgy.
He taught patrology at the St. Zeno Theological Institute in Verona
from 1981 to 1984.
He taught Eastern theology and liturgy at the Institute for Ecumenical
Studies in Verona from 1982 to 1985.
He entered into the service of the Holy See at the Oriental
Congregation in 1985, and was promoted to Undersecretary of the same
Dicastery on December 17, 1997.
Teacher of Armenian patrology, language and literature at the
Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, he is the author of several
publications and knows various ancient and modern languages, including
Latin, Greek, modern and classical Armenian, Kurdish, English and
French.
