CALL FOR PAPERS
SMYRNA AND THE BLACK SEA COASTAL COMMUNITIES
May 4-5, 2002
The tenth in the UCLA series, Historic Armenian Cities and Provinces, will feature the Armenian communities of Smyrna/Izmir and the Black Sea regions. The conference will take place on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles on Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, 2002. The history, commerce, art and architecture, literature
and periodic press, the religious, civic, educational, and political
institutions, and the diasporas of these communities may be included.
Persons interested in participating in the conference are invited to submit a one-page e-mail abstract by December 8, 2001. Those who previously prepared such an abstract are requested to re-submit it at this time. Persons not having access to e-mail may submit by regular mail or else by fax to my attention at 310-206-9630.Participation in the conference entails the obligation to prepare a formal publishable paper in English to be included in the
conference volume in the series, “Historic Armenian Cities and
Provinces,” put out by Mazda Publishers. Notification of the final conference program will be made by January 15, 2002.
