A number of military officers’ organizations intend
to play active roles in the country’s political life, officers
representing Honour of Officer, Honoured Warriors, Union of Veterans,
Luys Gund (Light of regiment) and Union of Reserve and Retired Officers
said this at a news conference on 12 October. Representatives of these
organizations declared that they had established Homeland and Honour
Association.
The head of Honour of Officer, Garnik Sarkisyan, said that the country’s
economy has been paralysed by a clan system. The ruling government does
not want and cannot pull the country out of the current deep crises.
The representatives of the organizations declared that Armenia had
become the West’s puppet and that this country is losing its main ally,
Russia, as a result of a balanced foreign policy conducted by Armenian
President Robert Kocharyan. An environment of sale and purchase is
reigning in the country and poverty has become omnipresent. Taking all
these into account and seeing no way out of the current situation, those
taking part at the news conference decided to play active political
roles.
A statement by Homeland and Honour organization was read out at the news
conference. The statement said that Robert Kocharyan and his
administration should resign and their resignation is one of the factors
main for overcoming the crises in the country. At the same time, the
statement said that the focus was not on personalities but on the clan
system which should be destroyed and the government should be
established on different principles.
