Adviser to Armenian prime minister killed by grenade

An adviser to Armenia’s prime
minister who previously served in the Cabinet was killed
Tuesday by a hand grenade attached to his door knob – a
murder officials said was likely related to the victim’s
business activities.

The grenade went off when Gagik Pogosian, 49, left his
apartment in the capital Yerevan on Tuesday morning.
Pogosian died in a hospital from multiple shrapnel wounds,
the Armenian Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Pogosian’s 20-year old son was also wounded and
hospitalized.

Pogosian worked as minister for state revenues in the
Armenian Cabinet, and then become an adviser to Prime
Minister Andranik Migranian.

Pogosian also ran an oil import business, and his killing
was most likely connected to this activity, according to an
investigator from the prosecutor-general’s office who asked
not to be named.
