According to the General Director of Detroit’s Michigan Opera Theatre
David DiChiera, the classic opera of Armen Tigranian- ‘Anoush’ is included
in the 2001-2002 program of his theatre. 6 performances are planned
in November 10-18, 2001, in Armenian and with English translation.
Thus Michigan’s theatre is the first in North America which presents
‘Anush’ in original. We’d like to add that for the first time this
opera was performed in 1981- again in Michigan theatre- gaining
international
fame for this masterpiece of Armenian national opera. Local Armenian
community contributed to the success of the opera then.
‘Armenians for Anush’, the Armenian Opera Committee, which was formed
to assist the Michigan Opera Theatre in financing the Fall 2001 production
of Armenian national Opera, ‘Anoush’, raised up to 300,000 USD, the
fundraising goal being 400,000.
‘We are proud to once again present this opera. Anush is a touching
and shocking performance of Armenian traditions, literature, art, music
and dance. Thus we express our gratitude to US-Armenian community which
supported us so much’,- said Dikiera. The staging of the opera is going
to be supervised by notable stage manager Jirayr Papazian.
