His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, met with the Pan-Armenian Games’ World Committee Members on April 10. The delegation was headed by Chairman of the Committee Ashot Melik-Shahnazarian.
Melik-Shahnazarian told reporters that a state steering committee was set up to be led by Culture and Sports Affairs Minister Roland Sharoyan.
His Holiness expressed appreciation and gave his blessing to the Pan-Armenian Games’ organizers, upon whose initiative, the second Pan-Armenian Games will take place in Armenia, from August 18 to 26. Nearly 3,000 young Armenian sportsmen from more than 30 countries of the world are expected to participate.
Karekin II considered the Pan-Armenian Games to be a praiseworthy endeavor, noting that the important mission of strengthening relations between Armenia and the Diaspora will be realized through the Games. The Armenian government has earmarked 40 million drams for holding the Games.
Recounting the First Pan-Armenian Games that were successfully organized in Armenia two years ago, the meeting’s participants expressed assurance that the 1700th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Christianity jubilee will have a wide resonance and would inspire a new spirit and enthusiasm in the hearts of the new generation of Armenians.
