ARMENIAN HISTORIANS NOT TO TAKE PART IN MULHEIM DIALOGUE

Hrant Avetisian, the director of the History Institute, affiliated with the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, told Armenpress that he had learned from the presss about the Armenian-Turkish dialogue of historians, entitled ‘the Heavy Burden of History’, to be held on March 23-25 in Germany’s Mulheim under the aegis of Armenian Association of Germany and a similar organization of German Turks.

Avetisian said that Hakob Chakrian, an expert in Turkish history and a reporter with the local Azg daily, invited to participate in the conference, and also historians of Armenian origin from US and other countries may have personal invitations. He said that even if there were official invitations, the Armenian historians would not go to Germany to take part in discussions “because it would not be correct to debate over whether there was the genocide or not.”

He said they could discuss with Turkish historians only issues on how to eliminate the aftereffects of the genocide committed by the government of the Young Turks. “For this the Turkish government must recognize the genocide as done by many countries,” he said.
