Genocide claims are fake

Azeri President Haidar Aliyev has stated that all Armenian genocide allegations were fabricated and they did not have the slightest connection with realities.

In a speech at the Ankara University yesterday in Ankara, Aliyev said resolutions taken at different countries’ parliaments were invalid and added that Armenians had better focus their attention on more recent events like the Hocali massacre in Nagorno-Karabagh in which the whole population of the town was massacred by Armenians overnight. “This is the real genocide,” said Aliyev.

Aliyev, in Turkey for and official visit, was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from the International Relations department at Ankara University. In his speech Aliyev said he hoped they could figure out a solution to the Nagorno-Karabagh dispute during his talks with the Armenian President Robert Kocharian on April 3 the United States. Stressing that Nagorno-Karabagh had been a dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia since 1982, Aliyev said the negotiations under the auspices of Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) could not produce a solution so far. He said that Nagorno-Karabagh has been one of the major topics during his talks with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and added that with a possible solution talks, the Armenian occupation would end in the region.

Indicating that the Caucasus was one of the most troubled regions of the world, Aliyev said it was very important to for Ankara and Baku to stand together in the region.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Aliyev has changed his schedule and decided to leave Turkey today. It was previously announced that he would leave Turkey on Friday.
