SDU CALLS ON ANNULMENT OF KARS TREATY DO NOT CORRESPOND TO FOREIGN POLICY, OFFICIAL SAYS

The political forces in Armenia turned down a call by the Self-Determination Union (SDU) to jointly hold a mass rally in Yerevan March 16 to demand annulment of the 1921 Kars agreement between the Bolshevik Russia and Turkey, which left some provinces of the territoris of the 1918-1920 Armenian Republic under Turkish control.
The chairman of the self-determination Union Nerses Zeynalvandian told reporters on Thursday that the leaders of political forces brushed off the SDU call on the grounds that it was not the proper time to hold a rally.

But despite this Zeynalvandian said his party would continue seeking annulment of the treaty and would demand from the authorities to make it a component of Armenia’s foreign policy.

Meantime a spokeswoman for the Armenian foreign ministry told on Thursday that “the statements made by the SDU on the issue do not correspond to the foreign policy of Armenia.”
