1700th Anniversary Pilgrimage To Cappadocia

His Beatitude Mesrob II, Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul and all Turkey, will lead a pilgrimage to Ceasarea (Cappadocia), where the patron saint of the Armenians, Gregory the Illuminator, was ordained the first bishop (catholicos) of the present hierarchy of the Armenian Church in the 4th century.

The March 23-25 pilgrimage is part of the Armenian Patriarchate’s year-long programs celebrating the 1700th anniversary of Armenian Christianity.

His Holiness Bartholomew I, the Ecumenical Patriarch of the Orthodox Church, will participate in the Jubilee celebrations of the Armenian Church and will attend an ecumenical service on March 31 at the Armenian Patriarchal Church of the Holy Mother-of-God
in Istanbul.

The two Patriarchs met on January 19 at the Greek Patriarchate in Fener.

Jubilee Pilgrimages to sacred sites for the Armenian Church will take place throughout the year, led by the Patriarch:

A pilgrimage to the Holy See of Etchmiadzin and adjacent holy sites

June 6-7
A second pilgrimage to Ceasarea, Cappadocia

June 8-10
Pilgrimage to Iskenderun, Antioch, and Vakifli village in Musa Dagh

September 14-15
Pilgrimage to Ani, Akhtamar, Aradzani

October 12-14
Pilgrimage to Hromkla, once the site of the Armenian Catholicosate
