Every year the Armenian Communities Department grants a limited number of
scholarships to students of Armenian origin, born and studying in the
Diaspora, who are from families of limited means.

quota related to the country of study. Following the Department’s

5. Regulations
*The Armenian Communities Department of the CALOUSTE GULBENKIAN FOUNDATION
will award Higher Education Scholarships for the 2000/2001 academic year, on
the following general conditions:
*These scholarships may be granted to students of Armenian origin, under 26
years of age (whatever their nationality), born and studying in the
Diaspora, who have not sufficient financial means.
*To qualify for these scholarships candidates must be in their second or
subsequent year of Higher Education. In view of the new policy adopted,
these scholarships may be awarded to candidates pursuing their studies in
Middle Eastern countries, Europe, Canada, Latin America and Australia. The
Foundation does not encourage students to study outside their country of
residence. Any such requests will only be considered once the student is
legally established in the country of study.
*These scholarships are only for full-time Higher Education studies of at
least four years duration. They cannot be awarded for evening classes,
part-time, correspondence, technical, professional or non-academic courses.
*Candidates who intend to take up a teaching career may be given priority
once the Department’s Scholarship Committee is sure that the candidate will
genuinely be pursuing that career in an Armenian teaching establishment
within the Diaspora.
*The students will be selected according to their academic level and merit.
Preference will be given to candidates of whom no relative has previously
been a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship holder.
* Please Note: Two members of the same family may not benefit simultaneously
from our scholarship programme.
*Requests for application forms, exception made for those applicants who
have the possibility of obtaining the forms from the internet, must be
received in Lisbon, by registered mail, between 1st January and the end of
February for Northern Hemisphere candidates or between 1st September and
31st October for Southern Hemisphere candidates.
*Should normal progress be made in the chosen studies, the student may
benefit from a Foundation’s scholarship for a maximum period of three
consecutive academic years. Scholarships are only awarded for one academic
year. Scholarship renewal is conditional on the student being accepted for
the following study year. The scholarship holder should therefore provide an
official certificate of enrolment in the following year, together with a
grade report, without which the scholarship cannot be continued.
*Scholarship awards will be confirmed once the beneficiary has, within the
specified period, supplied an original Certificate of Registration in the
year for which the scholarship has been awarded, issued by the place of
study attended.
*Documents or certificates sent by candidates must be originals or true
copies thereof legally authenticated. No documents will be returned.

community.
*The Foundation reserves the right to terminate or cancel a student’s award
at any time, for reasons of misconduct, unethical behaviour or for breach of
