Haik Kocharian, an award-winning photographer and New York Times Critic Pick filmmaker, presents a concert symbolizing the development of an artist through the passage of time. Kocharian will perform his poetic songs in chronological order to the present, starting with his early songs written nearly 20 years ago. Kocharian’s unique music and lyrics encompass such diverse topics as self-examination, his observation of the surrounding world, and the search for higher meaning. Similarly, the concert will include two screenings: Kocharian’s first short film, “The Poster,” made in the late 1990s when he arrived to New York City, as well as scenes from his third feature film currently in preproduction, “I am Like You.” Accompanying the concert will be a slideshow of Kocharian’s photography from his early days in New York City, circa 1990s, to his most recent global travels photographing monks in Nepal, maternity hospitals in rural Ethiopia, and rituals in an ancient city in India.

“That detachment, its cause and consequence, forms the shrouded heart of “Please Be Normal,” a tiny, piercing study of dawning desperation that’s all the more remarkable for being virtually silent.” Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Mar. 19, 2015 (New York Times Critic Pick)

“Evocative imagery and subtly piercing performances provide a vivid portrait of lives of quiet desperation.” Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Mar. 23, 2015

“Tibetan Monastic Community In Nepal’ Comes Alive In Photographic Splendor”Antonia Blumberg, Huffington Post, Dec. 6, 2017

“Kocharian is a fiercely independent filmmaker and musician.” John Del Signore, Gothamist, Arts & Entertainment, Sept. 14, 2009
