At the initiative of the German side, phone talks were held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The focus was on the intra-Ukrainian conflict in Donbass, the course of negotiations in the Trilateral Contact Group and the ‘Normandy Format’ for a peaceful settlement. The parties underscored the need for direct dialogue over Kyiv, Donetsk and Lugansk as parties to the conflict, as well as the mediation efforts of Russia, Germany, France and the OSCE.
The parties also exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and affirmed the need for speedy implementation of the agreements incorporated in the statement that the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia adopted in Moscow.
