March 15 marks the birthday anniversary of renowned clown and actor of the Armenian circus Leonid Yengibaryan.

Today, Honored Artist of the Soviet Union Leonid Yengibaryan would mark his 84th birthday anniversary.

Yengibaryan was the one who created the pantomime theatre art developing a new, unique “Yengibaryan style.” His way of communication with people was of prudent and comprehensive way. As the Czech famous actor Miroslav Hornicek once described, “Many came and spoke incessantly without saying anything, yet he came, stood in silence, and said everything.”

Actor Yengibaryan considered that clownery pantomime turned into the phenomena which was designed to bring a new, complex, and unique experience to the theatre art, fresh views on the good and the evil, the light and the darkness, the time and the conscience to be delivered in a new style and language.

Artists all over the globe looked forward to following the intellectual clownery by Yengibaryan who then had won many stages throughout the world, captivated the many with his “play”. The spectators knew they would get touched with Yengibaryan’s high art, as each performance was crowned with a new say, a flight of thought, which prompted the many to reflect on the unique and complex performance – characteristic of him, enriched with true and sincere art.

Most compound performances were filled with ideas, which were never surpassed and remained as Yengibarian’s. It is no accident that the world calls Leonid Yengibaryan ‘the clown of all times.’
