ISRAELI WOMAN, RUNNING FROM AUTHORITIES, ARRESTED IN ARMENIA

ZACK EVANS

Woman was convicted of aggravated fraud in Israel, but succeeded in escaping from under the nose of the authorities.

Mari Agajanian, who was supposed to enter prison in November 2017 for 26 months after she was convicted of defrauding new immigrants in difficult financial circumstances, was arrested today Monday in Armenia in an Interpol operation conducted at the request of the Israeli authorities, according to Channel 12.

No one noticed Agajanian’s disappearance until Kan News investigated the matter in a documentary. “I have a foreign passport, and I left Israel with a foreign passport,” she said in a phone conversation with Kan. “I fled from injustice so that I could be with my daughter, she continued.

Not only did Agajanian escape from Israel without the authorities notice; she returned at one point to visit her parents and left, again without anyone stopping her. According to her, her parents received an order preventing her departure from Israel two months after she actually left the country.

The incident caused serious embarrassment for the Israeli security forces.

Agajanian was the office manager for disgraced MK and former tourism minister Stas Meseznikov, who served nine months of a fifteen-month sentence on conflict of interest charges.
