EU Ambassador highlights the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of Armenia-EU relations

The head of EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski believes that the newly elected National Assembly has all the opportunities for the establishment of the real parliamentarism in Armenia. The Ambassador’s remarks came at a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday.

The Ambassador also evaluated the role of the activation of the inter-parliamentary ties and the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the development of Armenia-EU relations. On behalf of the European Union Delegation Ambassador Piotr Świtalski expressed willingness to actively cooperate for the development of the institutional capabilities of the National Assembly, taking as a basis the needs assessed by the parliament.

As the parliament press service reports, the Parliament speaker thanked the Ambassador for his role in deepening of Armenia-EU cooperation and expressed readiness to promote the development and deepening of relations.

Touching upon the ratification process of Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, the President of the National Assembly has noted that it is an important condition for making the reforms and advancing the partnership with the EU on the basis of the system of values. The Head of the Parliament expected the Ambassador’s support in this issue.

The Head of the legislative body has noted that the Armenian side highlights the beginning of the EU entry visa facilitation dialogue for the Armenian citizens. “I think that this will be also a serious achievement and the relations will reach to a new level of development,” Ararat Mirzoyan said
