Building of “Little Singer of Armenia” partly collapsed

The building located on 23 Aram street in “Old Yerevan” neighborhood of Armenia’s capital Yerevan partly collapsed on Friday evening. The building was included in the list of Yerevan historical-cultural buildings and served as a venue for Little Singers of Armenia choir rehearsals. As the choir reported on its Facebook page late in Friday, no one has suffered as a result of the wall collapse.

Concerns about the endangered state of the building were voiced last year when construction of a commercial underground parking space started in the vicinity of the building.

The collapse of the facade wall triggered a protest action on Saturday outside the building. As the Artistic Director of the choir Tigran Hekekyan blamed the ministry of culture and other relevant state agencies for failing to implement PM Nikol Pashinyan’s instruction about reconstruction works in the building. As an interim solution for the issue the Yerevan Mayor’s Office provided a venue to the choir until the matter of the reconstruction is approved by the culture ministry which is responsible for the historical-cultural monuments in capital Yerevan.

Hekekyan also noted that all responsible state agencies avoid facing questions from the choir members.
