Letter: Remembering ‘the forgotten genocide’

While this letter may be a little late, it is respectfully sent for last year’s attention toward the centennial of the Great War or what became World War I. It was at this time that the Young Turks citizenry of the dying Ottoman Empire perpetrated the 1915 Armenian Massacres under the guise of war and any reference of the time should include this tragedy that is now known as the Armenian Genocide or The Forgotten Genocide, as would the Holocaust be part of WWII.

When enjoying the series “Downton Abbey,” its depiction of WWI noticeably and dismayingly failed to even touch upon this matter, which shows political maneuvering also evident in attacks at the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C., earlier this year.

Recognizing instances that cite the abhorrent rise of anti-Semitism and the racism of white supremacy and in part MAGA that may be emboldened by President Trump’s rhetoric that appears to give a platform germinating such hate.
