Earlier this week, H.E. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate, traveled to Lebanon to participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I’s ordination to the priesthood and in meetings of the Catholicosate of Cilicia Central Executive Religious and Lay Councils, which will be held from October 18-20, 2018. H.G. Bishop Torkom Donoyan, Vicar General, also traveled to Lebanon to participate in the events. Executive Council Chair Mr. Garo Eshgian will attend Sunday’s celebration.
The Religious Council’s session convened on Thursday, October 18, presided by His Holiness. A wide range of topics relating to the Catholicosate’s mission were discussed, among them Christian Education, youth engagement, ecumenical and interfaith relations, Seminary, communications department, publications, HASK newsletter, social issues, streamlining the Pontifical and prayers for the republic ceremonies, Armenian Genocide Orphans’ and Cilicia Museums, His Holiness’ golden anniversary, questions and suggestions from Prelacies, for which apt decisions were adopted. His Holiness stressed the importance of renewal of our spiritual lives through revitalization of religious and moral values, as well as the importance of the church-people bond given that our church is a people-oriented mission and service.
The Lay Council session convened on Friday, October 19, presided by His Holiness. Mr. Vahe Yacoubian and Mr. Gaidzag Zetlian, members of the Lay Council representing the Western Prelacy, participated. Topics discussed included Catholicosate properties and construction projects, financial matters, reorganization of Prelacies, relations and collaboration with Armenia and Artsakh, endeavors of charitable organizations serving under the auspices of the Catholicosate, as well as suggestions and concerns presented by Prelacies.
The joint session of the two councils convened on Friday evening and examined Antelias- Etchmiadzin and Antelias-Armenia-Artsakh collaboration, by-laws of Prelacies, Sis Catholicosate lawsuit, New Cilicia village in Artsakh, and rebuilding the Armenian community in Syria. Pertinent information was given to participants concerning the aforementioned subject matters and appropriate decisions were adopted for forthcoming endeavors.
Summing up the day’s deliberations, His Holiness underscored the imperative of further engaging the people in the life of our Church, expressed satisfaction for the transparency of the Catholicosate and its accountability to the people, and emphasized the need to expand endeavors relating to strengthening collaboration with the Holy Sees and bolstering Armenia and Artsakh.
His Holiness Catholicos Aram I’s golden anniversary of ordination will be celebrated on Sunday, October 21st,. On this occasion, His Holiness with celebrate Pontifical Divine Liturgy and deliver his message at St. Gregory the Illuminator Mother Cathedral in Antelias.
