Concrete agreements reached during Chancellor Merkel’s visit to Armenia -MFA

Concrete agreements related to both investments and joint programs were reached within the framework of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Armenia, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anna Naghdalyan told reporters today.

She noted that the Armenian side will make concrete offers in that direction.

Among other important topics discussed during the visit the Spokesperson singled out issues on the Armenia-EU agenda, including liberalization of the visa regime.

As for the Karabakh issue, Anna Naghdalyan said “Germany is interested in the establishment of peace and stability in the region, and the key to achieving this is creating an atmosphere conducive to peace.

“Aggravation of the situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and the Artsakh-Azerbaijan line of contact, propaganda of war and xenophobia, prevention of people-to-people conflicts should be excluded. These were the priorities of the German Presidency of OSCE in 2016, which were further reinforced after the April 2016 aggression against Artsakh,” she said.

During the recent visit the German Chancellor reiterated their commitment to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and pledged the willingness of Germany to assume political responsibility on the issue, the MFA Representative said.

She attached importance to Merkel’s remarks in Baku that real solutions should be found to the problems of people living in the conflict zone.
