UN ready to support Armenia’s further development – Secretary General

Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan held a meeting with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres on July 18 in New York, press department at the foreign ministry reported.

Welcoming the guest, the Secretary General stressed he had been impressed with the revolution that took place in Armenia and the following changes, adding the United Nations is ready to support Armenia’s future development in spheres of its interests.

The Armenian minister, in turn, noted that our country values the cooperation frameworks in the scope of the UN and reiterated the great interest of the country’s new government to further enrich the common agenda.

Minister Mnatsakanyan briefed the Secretary General on the recent political developments in Armenia, pointing the priorities of the new government are clear – implement reforms as mandated by the people in directions of establishing rule of law, combating corruption, creating equal opportunities as envisaged by the government program.

Minister Mnatsakanyan, Secretary-General António Guterres exchanged views on the ongoing preparations works of hosting the XVII Summit of La Francophonie In Yerevan in October.

According to the source, the interlocutors touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh peace process with Minister Mnatsakanyan stressing Armenia’s commitment to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict under the auspices of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs, at the same time outlining Artsakh security and status as Armenia’s priorities in the settlement process.

The FM also pointed to the necessary to establish an atmosphere of peace, maintenance of ceasefire regime and rejection of aggressive rhetoric as favorable factors to push forward the process.
