Hello, My name is Iliana Guevara and I’m the executive producer and camera operator of The Other Side of Home. I am a Latina filmmaker from Los Angeles and I want to tell you about this short doc that we made about identity and the Armenian Genocide. The Other Side of Home was directed by Nare Mkrtchyan and produced by Academy Award-winning producer Rob Fried. Nare is an Armenian filmmaker, whose grandparents were survivors of the Armenian Genocide.
In 1915, Turkey killed 1.5 million Armenians. Still today, Turkey denies it was a genocide.The Other Side of Home explores the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide through the eyes of Maya, a Turkish woman who must grapple with the recent discovery of her Armenian heritage.
