Ararat Sarkissian a painter and sculptor is also a Member of the European Academy of Natural Sciences and International Association of Art, Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia. He participates in international art expos and exhibitions around the world. In 2013, he presented Armenia in the Venice Art Biennale.
Ararat Sarkissian’s art expresses the retention of experience of identity and memory. Sarkissian’s work, post-modern, conceptual, and abstract in part, makes reference to ancient cultures as well as to the important medieval tradition of Armenian illuminated manuscript. His work which embodies a variety of expressions from ancient cultures also includes the wider art of medieval and renaissance Europe.
As a multi-faceted artist who knows no boundaries, Ararat experiences true joy in finding inspiration within nature while continually challenging himself to synchronize the truth with his unlimited imagination.
“I have always believed that a cross stone is a living thing. Beyond its functions as a work of art, a religious icon, or an edifice to power, it lives as a witness to history, and, ultimately, the highest human aspirations of becoming one with nature. I went on to painstakingly recreate cross stones that were razed to the ground in Nakhichevan, attempting to give these vanished monuments a new lease on life through paint and hand-made paper”.
