As higher education is increasingly regarded the pathway to the forefront of one’s chosen field, AGBU Hye Geen and Young Circle, in partnership with Woodbury Student Association, have organized an International Conference on the theme of Armenian Youth and Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities.

The speakers are known for their academic leadership experience and have distinguished themselves in the realm of higher education. We are proud to announce that the keynote speaker, Dr. Mary A. Papazian, currently President of Southern Connecticut State University, has just been appointed to head San Jose State University. Her topic is “Pathways to Professional and Cultural Success in Higher Education.” The other participants are Dr. Albert Karnig, President Emeritus of California State University, San Bernardino. He will address “Educational Strategies to Counter the Challenges of Global Competitiveness and Technological Innovation.” Then Dr. Nelly Titizian-Kazman, Senior Executive Director of La Verne University’s San Fernando Campus, will discuss “Higher Education as a Doorway to Opportunities for Armenian American Leadership.” Joining them, Alice Petrossian, Past president of the Association of California School Administrators will speak about “Nurturing the Pursuit of Higher Education among Armenian Students.” Finally, Hasmik Kyureghyan, lead specialist at Armenia’s National Program for Educational Excellence and Coordinator of AYB School, will present “The Ten-Year Experience of AYB Educational Foundation, a New learning Culture in Armenia and Beyond.”
The International Conference will serve as a means for Armenian students to meet and interact with distinguished professionals. It will also serve as a platform for Armenian students of late high school and college age to network and establish important relationships. Finally, it will encourage community leadership with a vision for public service.
To mark the occasion, AGBU Hye Geen and Young Circle will launch a youth initiative entitled Summer 2016 Youth Experience. It will provide the opportunity for local college and high school students of Armenian descent to have a four-week summer placement or internship in their field of study in the Los Angeles area.
