At Holy Etchmiadzin on Sunday, September 27, His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, will bless the Holy Muron—the holy oil employed in all the church’s sacramental anointing services—in a special ceremony at the outdoor Altar of St. Drtad.
The service is conducted by the Catholicos about every seven years; it was last performed in 2008. Bishops from Armenian dioceses across the world will travel to Holy Etchmiadzin on this occasion, and carry the blessed oil back with them for distribution to local parishes. Both Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Diocesan Primate, and Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, Diocesan Legate and Ecumenical Director, will take part in the service.
