Large Group of Armenians Show Their Support in Greek Independence Day Parade

On Sunday March 30th The Greek Independence Day Parade took place along Fifth Avenue in New York City. There was a large Armenian Contingency who marched in the parade and had its own float. This group was led by the Knights& Daughters  of Vartan. The Akhtamar Dance Ensemble also ARF & Homenetmen Scouts participated in this year’s parade .

The Knights of Vartan started marching in this parade over 20 years ago under the leadership of the late Samuel Azadian. Over the years we have followed this tradition under the leadership of NYC April 24 cochairman Tigran Sahagyan and Greek Independence Day Parade chairman Edward Boladian.

The Armenian participation in this parade is important for two reasons. First, it helps fortify our relations with the Greek Community who share so many cultural similarities and political objectives with the Armenians. Second, and most importantly it helps us reach a very large audience with our message. “Turkey is Guilty of Genocide” and we must make sure everyone hears this. At this parade we had posters, signs and informational flyers about the Time’s Square Commemoration which will be held on Sunday April 27nd this year at 2pm.NYC Times Square and letting the world know Turkeys attacks against Armenian civilians in Kassab ,Syria . We hope to see everyone in attendance that day. This year it will be broadcasting throughout the Internet. The more people we have the better media coverage we will receive.
