Kurdish Police Attack Assyrian Villagers

(AINA) — More than thirty Kurdish policemen participated in assaulting Assyrians in the village of Dashtak, near Zakho on the Turkish border. The policemen attacked Assyrians who had fled from the village of Oznakh because of fighting between Kurds and Turks. According to witnesses, the police insulted and beat village elders who tried to mediate and diffuse the situation.
The attack occurred when the police attempted to disperse a group of young Assyrians from the area surrounding the village’s water fountain, regardless of whether the Assyrians were resident of the village.
Dashtak is about fifty kilometers from the Sindi center. The Assyrians of Dashtak were themselves displaced from the village of Sanat because of fighting between Kurds and Turks.
