Dear OIA Members, On Saturday, July 28, 2012, AGBU World Games will be kicking off in Pasadena. With great pride, we will all be watching and cheering for the forty five members of OIA “Bolis” team marching into the field, wearing the OIA “Bolis” team uniforms.
We believe this event, which has been taking place since 1955, is a perfect venue that brings the Armenian Youth across the globe together where worldwide brother/sisterhood of the Armenian spirit is demonstrated among our young athletes. In a friendly setting, our sons and daughters will have an opportunity to engage in sporting competitions and create lifelong bonds with fellow Armenians, who grew up in different parts of the world while sharing the same values and culture as ours.
On the OIA web page www.oia.net, as well as in the monthly Calendar newsletter, you will find all game details in which OIA will be taking part. Games will be taking place in three different venues: AGBU Center in Pasadena, AGBU Center in Canoga Park, and Pasadena High School. We are participating in four team sports and one individual sport and the majority of our team’s participation expenses are being covered by OIA’s Hagop Sarafoglu Sports Fund. Please come to cheer not only for the OIA team, but also for more than 500 other Armenian athletes who will be traveling from 14 different countries to take part in the games.
On behalf the OIA Executive Board, once again, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to AGBU, for the gracious invitation they extended to us to participate in these games as a non-AGBU entity for the first time in the games history, and also extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to OIA team General Manager Mr. Herman Celik and his friends for their dedication to the cause and accepting to manage our team during the games.
Last but not least, I would like to invite you all to the Opening Ceremony which will be taking place on July 29, 2012 in Pasadena City College with free admission. The Victory Ball will be taking place on August 4, 2012 in Universal Studios back lot. The details have been presented in the attached flyer.
