The vocal quintet “Luys” (meaning “Light”) was founded in 2003 and consists of five feminine voices: soprano – Hasmik Baghdasaryan, Mariam Mailyan, alto – Marine Nazaryan, Sofya Konjoyan, Shahane Zalyan. “Luys” repertoire consiste of Armenian medieval spiritual songs, pieces from Divine Liturgy, folk songs and songs arranged by Komitas (1869-1935), as well as works by modern armenian composers.
“Luys” had performances in many international festivals: MUSIKFESTUTTGART 2010 (Stuttgart-Germany), “Amici della Musica” 2006 (Palermo-Italy), “Musica Insieme” 2003 (Como-Italy), “Internationale Musiktage Dom zu Speyer” 2004 (Germany), “ Acappella festival” Leipzig 2011 and many concerts in Armenia, Italy, Germany, Canada, Austria, England, Switzerland.
“Luys” produced three CDs – “Light to the world” (2003 Germany), “Come to Light” (2004 Germany) and “Luys” (2009 USA). The third CD get a two prizes as a “Best Choir Album 2009” in USA in “Armenian Music Awards 2009”, and “Best CD Album dadicated to Komitas 140 aniversary” in Armenian National Music Awards 2009.
