Netherlands can facilitate progress in Armenian-Turkish relations

YEREVAN (YERKIR) – Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian, who is on a working visit to the Netherlands, met Tuesday with his Dutch counterpart Bernard Bot, PanARMENIAN.Net reported, citing MFA press office.

Vartan Oskanian thanked the Netherlands for the assistance rendered in the course of years both via bilateral programs (PSOM, ORET, MATRA, the programs targeted at formation of civil society and economy development) and in the framework of international financial structures. The Armenian Minister underscored that Armenia is interested in bilateral relations in all fields and added that official Yerevan intends to establish Consulate in the Netherlands in the near future.

When touching upon the agenda of political and economic relations, Mr bot voiced hope that the forthcoming parliamentary election in Armenia will meet international standards.

The two Ministers also discussed Armenia’s integration into European structures noting the importance of the Netherlands’ engagement in the implementation of the Action Plan signed within the New Neighborhood Policy. Vartan Oskanian said the European orientation is one of priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy and the republics intends to take every opportunity to deepen the reform process.

The parties exchanged views on the regional problems, specifically the Armenian-Turkish relations. By Minister Oskanian’s request, Bernard Bot briefed on Netherlands’ stance on Kosovo. Besides, they referred to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process.

Vartan Oskanian also held a meeting with the leaders of Armenian organizations of the Netherlands. The Minister presented the reform process and current stage of the Karabakh conflict settlement talks.
