INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES OF OPENING ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER TO BE HELD IN YEREVAN ON JANUARY 13-14

Yerevan, January 12. ArmInfo. An international scientific conference entitled “The Economic and Social Consequences of Opening the Armenian-Turkish Border> will be held in Yerevan on January 13-14, Vahram Ghushchyan, the AIPRG Research Director, told journalists, Friday.

According to him, the conference will demonstrate the results of the AIPRG research on social and economic consequences of possible unblocking of the Armenian-Turkish border. The research contains facts with scientific and economical basis.

To note, Armenian and international experts will participate in the conference. The conference will cover topics on estimating the change in trade flows between Armenia and Turkey in case of opening the border; the influence of the border’s opening on the foreign trade; the economic potential of regional integration of Armenia and Turkey’s north-eastern part. Besides, Omer Gokcekus, an expert of the Seton Hall University, will make a speech on the economic consequence of partial opening of the border with Cyprus. Turkish experts Burcu Gultekin and Erkut Emcioglu will also take part in the scientific conference.

The sponsors of the conference are the USAID, the Eurasia Foundation and the British Embassy in Armenia.
