Armenia Plans Public Eurovision Show in 2007

Armenian Television hopes to stage a public national final to select its second entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Diana Mnatsakanyan, the Head of International Relations at the Public TV Company of Armenia explained, “We really want to get our viewers involved in the selection process.” She added that the team behind the Armenian delegation is working hard to finalise exactly how the song will be chosen, “We are busy gathering songs and then we’ll decide how to hold the selection.”

The Armenian Music Awards were used as the hunting ground that eventually saw André sing for Armenia at Eurovision, winning them a place in the final in 2007. This year, major awards went to Christine Pepelyan (pictured), Aida Sargsyan and Garo Gaboudagia.

Armenian TV is accepting submissions for what it hopes will be a series of shows leading up to a national final until the end of November. It may also directly approach some performers or writers and ask them to take part.
