ARMENIA TAKES 80TH PLACE IN UNDP’ S HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT

Yerevan, November 10. ArmInfo. According to the Human Development Report of UN Development Program, Armenia takes the 80 place in 2006 among 177 countries of the world, leaving behind Azerbaijan and Georgia, which take the 99th and 97th place, respectively, it is said in the regular annual UN Human Development Report.

As the UN’s site informs, according to the report, Armenia is included in the group of countries with average human potential development level, having fallen by three points as compared with 2005. To note, the development level takes into account the GDP share per head, the life interval and literacy. According to the document, the GDP indicator per head in Armenia makes up $4,1 thsd, in Georgia – $2,8 thsd, in Azerbaijan – $4,1 thsd. The indicator of the Armenian citizens’ life interval in 2006 is higher than that of the citizens of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Thus, the average life interval in Armenia in 2006 made up 71 years, in Azerbaijan – about 67 years, in Georgia – 70 years. The literacy level of Armenia’s population makes up 99,4%.

To note, the report analyses the quality of life in the most countries of the modern world. The crisis of water resources has become the report subject this year. According to the authors, absence of pure water threatens the safety of personality more than the armed conflicts. The authors have assigned the first place this year, by the quality of life, to Norway which has been holding the first place the six year already. Then Iceland, Australia, Ireland and Sweden follow.
