October 31, an opening ceremony of a monument of the great Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan is to be held in Moscow, REGNUM correspondent reports referring to the department of international relations of the Moscow city. President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan who will pay a working visit to Moscow is expected to attend the ceremony. Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov and spouse of President of Russia Lyudmila Putina are also expected to be guests at the ceremony. The event is part of celebration of the year of Armenia in the Russia.
Aram Ilyich Khachaturyan (1903-1978) – composer, director, pedagogue, musician and public man, People’s Artist of the USSR (1954), Hero of Socialist Labor (1973), member of the Academy of Sciences of Armenian SSR (1963). Several days ago, an ad hoc contest committee created in May 2006 by decision of Armenian prime minister Andranik Margaryan approved music for a new anthem of Armenia. 15 out of 17 members of the committee voted for the melody of anthem of Armenian SSR written by Aram Khachaturyan.
