THIRD ARMENIA-DIASPORA CONFERENCE OPENS IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS: The third Armenia-Diaspora Conference opened today in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan attended by the country’s top leadership, representatives from Armenian Diaspora, chief clergy and representatives from Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenian foreign minister Vartan Oskanian made the opening speech. He said it was symbolic that the Conference coincided with the 15-th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, saying also the Conference offers a good forum for a joint analysis of the path Armenia has passed and planning future steps.

Among major issues of the agenda is working out a strategy for Armenia’s development in the 21st century. During a plenary session under the slogan New Responses to Old Questions: Armenians in the 21st Century participants will discuss a broad variety of related issues.

Addressing the Conference President Robert Kocharian said the four years after the previous Conference were a period of extensive political, economic, judicial and other reforms in Armenia.
