TURKEY TO `ALLOW´ ARMENIA PARTICIPATE IN KARS-AKHALKALAKI PROJECT SUBJECT TO SETTLEMENT OF KARABAKH CONFLICT

Yerevan, June 22. ArmInfo. Turkey is not anxious about the ban of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee on the construction of Kars-Akhalkalaki railway.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan says in an interview to RFE/RL probably bans do not threaten to the project’s implementation. I think all the three countries participating in the project have enough funds to implement it and they will be able to finance the construction of the railway anyway, N. Tan said.

To note, earlier Turkish Foreign Minister Andulah Gul stated in Baku that Armenia “can join the project if it wants to.” Spokesman Tan confirmed the minister’s statement and added that Armenia’s involvement into the project directly concerns the settlement of the conflict over Nagorny Karabakh. We must attract Armenia to the project after the conflict is resolved. There are realities which cannot be neglected, and there is a conflict which must be settled, and Armenia must exert definite efforts to find a settlement way, Namik Tan said.
