In the fifth round of the Monte Carlo chess tournament Levon Aronyan suffered the second consecutive loss. This time he lost the game to Vasiliy Ivanchuk. The players tied in the blindfold game, but Ivanchuk resulted stronger in the rapid game.
It is noteworthy that Aronyan plays quite unsuccessfully against Ivanchuk. This year Ivanchuk beat Aronyan three times – In Veyk Ann Zee, in Linares and in Monte Carlo.
After this loss Aronyan shares the 5th place with four other Grand Masters and the list is topped by Vishvanatan Anand and Alexander Morozevich with 6 points each.
In the 6th round Aronyan will play with Francisco Vallejo from Spain who is currently in the 3rd place with 5.5 points.
