YEREVAN IS TURNING INTO A DESERT

«Deserts are returning to Yerevan: we do not plant any more trees, we do not construct pools and still wonder why scorpions and snakes are filling the city», the ex Minister of Ecology Karine Danielyan announced on behalf of the working group SOS-Yerevan during the hearings in NA.

According to her, Yerevan is on the brink of an ecological catastrophe, and the Yerevan center can be considered the center of the ecological disaster. “Yes, today land costs much at the center of Yerevan, but soon it won’t cost a penny as there will be no air to breathe.” Karine Danielyan quoted statistic data and noted that although today our country is ecologically in a favorable condition (there are no dangerous plants), the situation gets worse day by day.

In 10 year the number of people suffering from asthma has been doubled and the number of cases of intestine acute infection have increased. And this testifies to the pollution of water and air. Karine Danielyan informed that especially at the center of the city even the responsible structures speak about the high level of water pollution, but nothing is done to change the situation.
