Armenia became Eurocontrol’s 36th Member State

Brussels, 4 March 2006 (Eurocontrol Press Release – website) – Armenia has been a member of the international civil aviation community since 1992, when it joined the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and in 1996 was one of the first former Soviet Republics to become a member of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC). Since then, the country has benefited from external technical assistance.

More specifically, Armenia has developed, jointly with the EUROCONTROL Agency, a master plan for the modernisation of its air traffic control services. For the purposes of this project, Armenian experts were seconded to EUROCONTROL.

“The accession of Armenia to EUROCONTROL is a most welcome development, which is fully in line with our overall objective of developing a seamless pan-European air traffic management system,” said Víctor M. Aguado, the Director General of EUROCONTROL.

“Furthermore, this region is set to become extremely important, with new airways linking Europe and the Far East,” he concluded.
