Official Azerbaijan has expressed its discontent with the resolution
adopted by the European parliament last week.

The European parliament had overwhelmingly adopted a resolution
condemning the Azerbaijani government’s destruction of the Armenian
cemetery in Djulfa.

The khachqars of the Armenian cemetery are located in the Nakhichevan
autonomous republic and are according to the European Parliament a
unique archaeological treasure.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan which is distinguished with its ethnic
diversity has protected 3.5 million historical monuments. Azerbaijan
has always constructively and transparently cooperated with
the international organizations in this field and had many
positive results”, the announcement by the Azeri Foreign Ministry
says. According to the Azeri Mass Media, “the Azeri side was taken
by surprise by the European Parliament resolution “.

“This decision must be evaluated as biased and inappropriate as in the
Azeri occupied territories the monuments of Azeri culture are still
being destroyed. While the international community recognizes the
destruction of the cultural and historical values in the Azeri occupied
territories, the resolution by the European Parliament cannot but cause
surprise”, the announcement by the Azeri Foreign Ministry mentions.
