YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 13. ARMINFO. AMD 75 millions were allocated for carrying out preventive measures against the bird flu infection. Grigory Baghyan, head of RA State Veterinary Inspection, stated in the interview to ARMINFO.
Mainly, the financial sources were spent on pruchasing vaccine against the bird plague. At present, 2 million 10 thousand birds have been already vaccinated. All 3 million birds at the poultry farms were vaccinated last year, when the cases of bird flu infection were revealed in Turkey and Romania. Mr. Bagyan stated that there are all required laboratory conditions in Armenia for defining the bird flu cases.
In his turn, Ara Asoyan, Chief Infectious Disease Specialist of Armenia, expressed doubt that it is possible to reveal H5N1 virus on the Armenian laboratories. He stated that the Center for Medical Genetics at RA National Academy has purchased diagnostic tests for carrying out analisys of only 50 people. Expensive equipment like PSR should be purchased to settle this issue. “This equipment may cost about $ 10 or 100 thousand,” Asoyan said, adding that RA Government fails to find these sources for already 10 years.
