Armenian Eurovision Song Stays Under Wraps

Armenia has chosen its song for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest, though is keeping it under wraps for a while longer.

Diana Mnatsakanyan, Head of International Relations at the Public TV Company of Armenia explained, “Our jury has selected a song written by Armen Martirosyan, a very famous Armenian composer, jazzman and musician.” She added that the song combines ethnic elements with a contemporary sound.

Ara Torosyan, who is well regarded in the Armenian music scene, will handle the arrangement of the song. Work is now continuing to complete the lyric for the song, “There are a number of
different songwriters working on it,” she stated.

The decision not to hold a national final, she said was due to the fact that this will be the first time the country has taken part in Eurovision, “We have decided to rely on the opinions of competent jurors.”

Popular Armenian singer Andre will represent his country at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with an English language song. The working title for the entry is ‘Stay With Me’.
