CUSTOMS OFFICERS FOIL GOLD ITEM SMUGGLING

YEREVAN, JANUARY 16, ARMENPRESS: Armenian customs officers have thwarted three attempts this month to smuggle in 2.5 kg of gold jewelry. The customs service said a Russian citizen of Armenian origin, Marieta Gevorkian, who arrived in Armenia by Krasnodar-Yerevan flight, tried to smuggle in 1 kg of undeclared gold items worth 500,000 drams.
Another attempt was foiled when an Iranian citizen of Armenian origin, Aregnaz Patatanian, had in her handbag 1 kg of undeclared gold items. She arrived from Tehran. The third attempt was foiled at Shirak airport in Gyumri.
