Armenia asks to delay gas price rises

YEREVAN. Jan 12 (Interfax) – Armenia is holding negotiations with Russia with the view of delaying increases in the price of natural gas until April 1. Armenia is currently buying its gas at the old price of $54 per 1,000 cubic meters, a source in the Armenian Energy Ministry told Interfax.

Armenian President Robert Kocharian is to visit Russia later this month, where he will discuss the issue, Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian told a press conference on January 10.

Gazprom charged Armenia $54 per 1,000 cubic meters of natural gas in 2005 and plans to increase the price to $110.
