CHIEF VET OF ARMENIA RULES OUT CONCEALMENT OF INFORMATION ON BIRD FLU FROM POPULATION

YEREVAN, JANUARY 8. ARMINFO. “Concealing cases of bird flue is not within the interests of the country. Besides, no one will dare to do it, as a serious threat for the people’s lives is in question,” Head of the State Veterinary Inspection of Armenia Grisha Bagyan told ARMINFO.

No cases of bird flue were recorded in Armenia for the last month, while the death of bird in the area of the River Araks were because of bird plague. The latter is one of the 15 types of H group viruses. The Inspection has special express tests for determination of the virus H5N1 (bird flu) and well-equipped laboratories for such analyses, he said.

In his turn, talking to ARMINFO’s correspondent, Doctor of Sciences, ornithologist Martin Adamyan cast doubts on existence of necessary laboratories for determination of the virus H5N1 in Armenia. He said that Turkey also denied existence of the virus as long as specialists of World health Organization arrived. He thinks that both the migrant and the local birds may spread the disease in the country as they can fly to Turkey or Iran within a day. The ornithologist thinks the most dangerous months February and March when birds migrate from north to south and vise versa in the spring.

To note, hot line 45-74-21 is operating at the Inspection.
