PRESIDENT KOCHARIAN DISCUSSES NEXT YEAR PLANS WITH BUSINESSMEN

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS; Armenian president Robert Kocharian held yesterday a traditional meeting with around fifty leading Armenian businessmen at the close of the year to sum up the outgoing year and discuss their plans for the new one.

Kocharian was quoted by his press office as describing the 2005 as ‘one of the most fruitful years,’ citing the 13.5 GDP growth reported for the 11 months of the year. Kocharian was said to stress that growth was reported in all industry branches, the highest-32 percent-was in construction and foreign trade. He said the growth was essential for earmarking the bulk of next year’s budget for resolution of social problems.

Kocharian also spoke about polarization of the society in terms of incomes and the disproportionate development of the capital city and rural areas, saying these were serious problems which have to be addressed by the government, which has to exercise more efforts to tackle social problems, pay greater attention to development of small and medium-sized businesses and to be persistent in clamping down on corruption.
